When I first started working at my uncle’s Chinese Restaurant in London’s Soho, I realised two things. One – the carpet was so dirty (actually the correct description would be “the carpet fibres had lost their ability to absorb anything in liquid form due to the amount of fat and grime deposited onto the surface of the carpet”) and two – I’d waste no time being an apprentice (more likely my uncle’s errand boy) at a restaurant. I was hit with the idea of owning my own service business. A carpet and upholstery cleaning business.
The bright idea was simple. There are thousands of Chinese (or other eating establishments) restaurants in and around London. They are all in a need of a good carpet cleaner who can bring their floor coverings back to their original glory.
Restaurant people don’t like paying much for services (or for anything in that matter) let alone to pay for said services a few times a year. But faced with the prospect of having to replace the whole of the carpet, cleaning and maintaining it to a good standard makes a lot more sense.
A few years later, here I am – the owner of a London carpet cleaning firm specialising in cleaning carpets, rugs etc for commercial clients, mainly in the City of London. I am very happy to have been able to offer alternatives to restaurant owners and make decent money.
